Beaches of Liguria

Discover Liguria and its best beaches.

Liguria is a region located in the northwest of Italy, famous for its coastline stretching over 200 km, known as the Ligurian Riviera and crossing all four Ligurian provinces of Savona, Imperia, Genoa and Spice. The landscape of Liguria is characterized by a combination of sea, mountains and hills, which offer a variety of unique panoramas.

The coast of Liguria is one of its strengths. It overlooks the Ligurian Sea and extends from Cap Martin in France to Capo Corvo (Province of La Spezia) and starting from Genoa-Voltri, the northernmost point of the Ligurian Sea at the mouth of the Leira stream, it is divided by convention into the Riviera di Levante , east of Genoa-Voltri, thus also including the city of Genoa and ending at the Gulf of La Spezia, and Riviera di Ponente, west of Genoa-Voltri up to the western limit of the Principality of Monaco.

The coast is also famous for its characteristic seaside villages, such as Cinque Terre, the small but elegant Portofino, the refined Rapallo and Camogli, which offer an authentic atmosphere and a breathtaking view of the sea. In general, the Riviera di Ponente offers a decidedly superior choice to that of the East in terms of sandy beaches and cliffs overlooking the sea, but the beauty of the sandy beaches of the Ligurian East remains truly remarkable. In the main city of the region, Genoa, it is possible to find various attractions: from its famous cathedral, to the royal palace, to the renowned aquarium.

Among the sea and commercial ports of this stretch is the port of Genoa, one of the most important in the Mediterranean Sea, together with the ports of Savona-Vado and La Spezia.

The mountains of Liguria, such as the Ligurian Alps, offer another dimension to the landscape. Their peaks, lush forests and green pastures are an oasis of peace and tranquillity. The hills, on the other hand, are famous for their vineyards and olive groves and offer landscapes characterized by a series of medieval villages, which offer an authentic experience of rural life.

In particular, the Cinque Terre national park is considered one of the most attractive Italian tourist destinations: here the various incredibly suggestive villages overlook the Ligurian sea and are connected to each other by a dense network of paths, as well as easily accessible individually via the extensive railway network or by boat along the coast.

The most famous beaches in Liguria are those of Alassio, a charming town in the province of Savona and located a few km from Sanremo: they are characterized by fine sandy shores that gently drop into shallow waters, submerged by the crystal clear water.

Other popular beaches of the Riviera di Ponente are those of Varigotti, located a few km from Finale Ligure, and those of Bergeggi which is located in the natural park of Porto Venere: ideal for taking long walks along the coast and enjoying the beauty of the local flora and fauna.

As far as the Riviera di Levante is concerned, we mention Lerici, Monterosso al Mare (place where the Disney film "Luca" is set) and Camogli, known for the beauty of its natural landscape and the almost cinematic-looking promenade.
